A historic church ceremony, a tented lawn reception, and a small-town celebration full of pure, unfiltered joy — this Edenton, North Carolina wedding is everything.

If you’ve been dreaming of a Southern wedding rooted in place, in family, in tradition — and wrapped in the kind of joy that makes your chest ache in the best way — Mary Glenn and David’s Edenton, NC wedding is going to stop you in your tracks.

This is one of those weddings that reminds me exactly why I do what I do. As a wedding photographer serving Wilmington, NC, North Carolina, Charleston, and beyond, I have had the privilege of documenting hundreds of love stories. But Mary Glenn and David? They gave me something truly special: a wedding where every single moment was exactly, authentically them!

Welcome to the beginning of forever for Mr. & Mrs. Daniel. Now a look into their full wedding weekend!

The Rehearsal Dinner: The Night Before at The Herringbone | Edenton, NC

Before we dive into the wedding day itself, we have to talk about the night before — because Mary Glenn and David’s rehearsal dinner at The Herringbone in Edenton, NC was an event all on its own.

The Herringbone is one of those venues that doesn’t need much help to be stunning, but the details layered into this dinner took it to another level entirely. The long communal table was dressed in a signature blue and white geometric linen from Stradley Davidson, topped with single white calla lilies in simple glass bud vases — an understated, coastal-chic centerpiece that felt both fresh and timeless. Custom monogrammed menus with a compass rose motif sat at each place setting, perfectly tied to the nautical spirit of Edenton’s waterfront location.

Mary Glenn gathered her girls — a stunning, colorful crew in every shade of the rainbow — on the lawn at golden hour before dinner, and honestly that photo alone could stop the scroll. The waterfront backdrop, the last light of the day filtering through the spring trees, and the pure joy on every face said everything about the kind of weekend this was going to be.

Then there was the couple. Mary Glenn in her cream one-shoulder cape gown with feather trim, David in his sage green plaid blazer and powder blue tie — they were the picture of effortless coastal Southern style. Custom frosted cups printed with “Mary Glenn & David” in blue script became the most coveted accessory of the evening.

The Herringbone delivered a dinner that felt like the most perfect preview of everything to come — long tables, candlelight, calla lilies, laughter, and the people who matter most gathered in the town that raised her. And those individual custard tarts for dessert? A detail I will not soon forget.

If you are looking for a rehearsal dinner venue in Edenton, NC or anywhere along coastal North Carolina, The Herringbone is simply it.

The Wedding Day

Getting Ready at a Home Full of History | Edenton, NC Wedding Photographer

Mary Glenn didn’t just get ready anywhere. She got ready at her childhood best friend’s grandmother’s home — a place dripping with memory, laughter, and the kind of love that only comes from a lifetime of friendship. There is something so intentional about choosing to begin your wedding day surrounded by the walls that have held so many of your stories, and that energy was palpable from the very first moment.

Her girls filled the porch and the rooms with champagne, laughter, and the buzzing excitement of a bride who was absolutely ready. The details were dreamy: a lush, curated invitation suite featuring the full weekend’s stationery, a blush pink ring box, orchid and peony bouquets in the softest white, a three-tiered wedding cake adorned with fresh orchids, and custom “The Daniels” koozies and cups in sage green and powder blue that felt like the perfect distillation of Mary Glenn’s effortlessly coastal aesthetic.

Before slipping into her gown, Mary Glenn did something that made my heart skip — she snuck over to peek at the reception tent with her girls. Watching a bride see her vision fully realized, before any guests arrive, before the ceremony begins, is one of those quiet moments I will always treasure as a photographer. The white sailcloth tent set on the lawn of historic downtown Edenton, draped in golden spring light, was nothing short of breathtaking.

The Dress, The First Look & A Home That Holds Everything

Mary Glenn’s gown was a Le La Rose design — a high-neck lace cap sleeve silhouette with a dramatic cathedral veil that pooled behind her like something from a dream. It was timeless and utterly her.

Before leaving for the church, Mary Glenn had not one but two first looks — first with her bridesmaids, a sea of pink and fuchsia that made the whole yard feel like it was celebrating. Then came the moment with her father and her brother. I won’t pretend I kept it together behind the camera.

We spent time snapping portraits around the house — the lattice garden wall, the front porch, the walkways — spaces that hold decades of Mary Glenn’s life. Her pink bridesmaids, each in their own shade from blush to hot fuchsia, were an absolute vision. Then we all piled onto the trolley, and off we went to church.

A Historic Church Ceremony in the Heart of Edenton, NC

If you’re a bride considering a church ceremony in Edenton, NC, or anywhere along the coastal Carolinas — please know that it does not get more beautiful than this. Mary Glenn’s childhood church, a historic brick chapel with a soaring steeple tucked among the trees of downtown Edenton, was the most perfect backdrop for the beginning of a marriage. As we walked up to the church she commented about climbing some of the trees as a child and memories from coming to church with her friends and family.

David waited at the altar, and when those doors opened and Mary Glenn came down the aisle — that was the first time he saw her.

The ceremony was short and sweet — intimate, meaningful, and exactly right. And then came the exit: the two of them bursting through those flower-draped arched doors into the golden afternoon light, surrounded by the people who love them most. That drone shot of the two of them framed against the full face of the church steeple is one of my favorite images!

A Tented Lawn Reception on the Water | Coastal NC Wedding

If the ceremony was intimate and sacred, the reception was an absolute party. The sailcloth tent was set on the lawn right in the heart of historic Edenton, with the water visible in the distance and the spring trees in full leaf overhead. The design was fresh and coastal — striped green and white linens, white crossback chairs, white orchid centerpieces in glass vases, custom menus with a compass rose motif, sage green and blue monogrammed koozies, and gold-framed signage in the most elegant calligraphy.

The whole thing felt like a quintessential coastal North Carolina celebration — airy, cheerful, and deeply personal. This aesthetic would feel equally at home at a Wilmington, NC wedding, a Charleston, SC wedding, or anywhere along the South Carolina coast.

Guests arrived from the trolley, drinks in hand, and the energy never dipped once.

The Detail That Made This Wedding Unforgettable: Being Present

Here is the thing I want every bride and groom who reads this to hear. Mary Glenn and David gave me fewer than five minutes — total — for all of their couple portraits. Five minutes.

And those images? They are some of the most authentic, joyful, real wedding portraits I have ever captured. Because Mary Glenn and David were not performing for the camera. They were completely, entirely themselves — laughing, stealing kisses, walking the streets of Edenton hand-in-hand — in the town where she grew up. There was no posing that needed to happen because they were just in it, fully present, soaking up every second of their wedding day.

We captured their couple portraits on the walk back to the house where Mary Glenn had gotten ready, so the two of them could slip away for a private dinner together on the porch before the reception began. Just the two of them. Married. On a porch that meant everything to her. I still think about that.

It is a reminder that the best wedding photos are not made in a long portrait session — they are made when two people are genuinely, completely in love and fully present in the moment.

The Party, The Dance Floor & The PUMP LIFE Hats

And then — the party.

The reception under the sailcloth tent was everything: a first dance full of joy and laughter (David’s dance moves had the entire crowd cheering), toasts, the most beautiful golden hour light pouring across the lawn and the waterfront, and a dance floor that did not empty until the very end.

Later in the night, Mary Glenn made a dress change — and arrived in a white feathered mini dress and a hat that read PUMP LIFE. If you’re wondering about the significance: it’s a nod to David’s license plate and his career, a perfectly personal inside joke turned wedding-night fashion moment that had the entire crowd losing their minds with joy. It was the most them thing possible, and it was perfect.

That is the Mary Glenn and David way: deeply personal, completely joyful, and never, ever taking themselves too seriously.

A Love Letter to Edenton, NC

I have photographed weddings across Wilmington, NC, the Crystal Coast, the Outer Banks, Charleston, SC, and all along the coastal Carolinas — and Edenton holds a truly special place in my heart. It is a town with historic bones, water views, front porches, and a community that shows up hard for the people it loves.

Mary Glenn and David’s wedding was a love letter to all of it. To the town that raised her. To the church where her family has worshipped. To the home where her best friendships were formed. To the waterfront where the whole community gathered to celebrate them.

If you are dreaming of a Coastal North Carolina wedding, an Edenton, NC wedding, or a Southern celebration rooted in place and community — I would be so honored to be your photographer.
